Biographical Information
Kolby is an internationally award-winning opera singer, composer, conductor, radio host, sports broadcaster, and content creator. He graduated from Kansas State University with undergraduate degrees in Music Composition and Music Education in 2022 and will graduate in 2024 with his Master of Science in Mass Communication from K-State and his Master of Music in Music Technology, Film Music from Southern Utah University.
Research
Kolby’s research primarily uses qualitative methods to explore the effects that college athletics have on local media. He also has an interest in science communication and community-engaged scholarship.
Career
Kolby leads a dynamic life as both a professional musician and a broadcasting personality. As founder and conductor of the Sonus Chamber Choir, he showcases his musical talent while also performing solo across various musical genres around the world. Kolby has earned numerous awards for his work in radio and sports broadcasting, including helping Wildcat 91.9 FM win the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards national championship, where he has been named Best Graduate Assistant in the nation twice. Kolby also hosts The Space Between, one of the top astronomy podcasts in the world, and pursues astrophotography in his spare time. Kolby is also a member of Dark Sky International, an organization that advocates against light pollution.
