Kansas State University Lavender Alumni

Kansas State Lavender Alumni is an informal organization for LGBTQIA+ and allied alumni of Kansas State University. In order to recognize the true scope of the organization’s mission the official name is the Kansas State University Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Allied Lavender Alumni Association (LavAlum).

A LavAlum is a recognized representative of K-State’s LGBTQIA+ alumni who wants to remain connected to our campus and community, and who would like to engage in work that represents the interests and concerns of those who are a part of the organization, both as alumni and as a constituency with a continuing role in University life.

There are many ways to be involved as a LavAlum, depending on your interest, time, and ability to engage year-by-year. We always want to find ways to connect with passionate alumni who found welcoming and affirming spaces at K-State and want to pay that forward, as well as those who might have faced challenges here and want to work to make it a better place and space for those that come after.

Some ways to be involved include, but aren't limited to, the following:

• Help to plan events with the Spectrum Center, the LGBTQ*FSA, broader university Affinity group organizations, and/or current student organizations to work together on issues that affect our broad campus communities. We seek to continue building K-State as an ever more connected and affirming institution.
• Empower current K-State students, both undergraduate and graduate, with mentorship, professional development, and connections to internships and engaged learning opportunities.
• As part of a holistic approach to creating a space of belonging at K-State for all, we seek to provide teaching and learning opportunities and programming that includes regular educational seminars and panel discussions to engage the students, faculty, staff, and community. We also work to have a continued presence at Homecoming festivities in October and at the All University Open House Weekend in April to engage both the campus and broader Manhattan and Kansas communities as well.
• Support our fundraising efforts that help us to provide a multitude of opportunities and services including scholarships, mental health resources, social events, conferences, and other empowering opportunities on our campus.
