Breakout Presenter
Dr. Nozella L. Brown
Wyandotte County Director and Family and Consumer Sciences Faculty, K-State Research and Extension

Dr. Brown supervises, mentors, and trains professionals, paraprofessionals, volunteers and interns to provide effective community nutrition and wellness education for underserved and diverse audiences. Fifteen years ago, she joined Wyandotte County KSRE as a nutrition educator for low-resource individuals, families and youth, providing classes at community centers, schools and public housing. Currently, she oversees the local Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program (SNAP-Ed) and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). A native of the “Dotte”, her community involvement includes active participation on several boards and committees, including the Food Systems Action Team of the Healthy Communities Wyandotte Initiative, the Latino Health for All Coalition, and the Greater KC Healthcare Foundation Community Action Committee. She earned her Ed.D. and M.S. in adult, occupational and continuing education and her B.S. in home economics and journalism, all from Kansas State University. Her main research, writing and teaching interests are nutrition, health and wellness, cultural competence, community-based learning, and low-income/low-literate adult learning and leadership. She has written articles and made presentations at local, regional and national professional and community meetings.

Dr. Bernard Franklin
Special Assistant to the K-State President, and Assistant Vice President

In addition to his roles at K-State, Franklin is also the executive director of the Kansas State College Advising Corps. He has served as President of Junior Achievement of Middle America, President of Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley, and Executive Director of Kauffman Scholars Inc, a $70 million college access program funded by the Kauffman Foundation. 

At the National Center for Fathering, Franklin served as VP and Urban Director, and was presented the Vision Award for his "pioneering work in educating men on the importance of fatherhood" by the Morehouse College Research Institute. Franklin has served as a member of the NFL Kansas City Chiefs professional counseling team. Franklin earned an MS in Counseling and Behavioral Studies from the University of South Alabama, and a Ph.D. in Counseling and Higher Education Administration, with an outside emphasis in Family Studies from K-State. While Franklin’s research area focused on urban men and boy’s development, he is an ardent champion for all urban youth.  He has served as a consultant to higher education and K-12 institutions, and numerous local, national and international organizations on a wide range of education, leadership, urban youth development and family issues, and is regarded as a national leader in articulating the daunting challenges facing the urban community.

Kevin Ingram
President, Manhattan Christian College

President Ingram graduated from Manhattan Christian College in 1986 with a degree in Bible Ministries and an emphasis in Church Music. He then served as youth minister at the Oakley Christian Church from 1986-1989 and as senior minister of Community Christian Church in Great Bend from 1989-1999.

In 1999 Kevin moved back to serve as MCC Director of Alumni and Church Relations. 

In 2002 he became the VP for Institutional Advancement. Kevin began his current role as President of Manhattan Christian College in July 2006. Locally, Kevin is an active member of University Christian Church where he currently serves as a small group leader. He is also a member of the Manhattan Rotary Club, a trustee of the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation, and the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. In addition, Kevin is a member of the Kansas Christian Evangelizing Association Executive Committee, the Presidents Association of Christian Colleges and Universities, and the Executive Committee of the Kansas Independent College Association. He and his wife, Lisa, have been married since 1983 and have two children, Lauren and her husband Nic live in Memphis, TN. Tyler and his wife Ashley live in Wichita.
