What to Expect
Kansas Communities Internships will offer you a 10-12 week paid internship with an employer in a rural area of Kansas. Specifics will vary experience to experience, but the basics are the same.
Student Eligibility
Undergraduates from all majors and colleges are welcome to apply. At the time of application, students must be enrolled full time, with plans to return in fall. It is highly recommended that interns not take additional courses or hold secondary jobs over their summer experience.
Student Requirements
- Attend an orientation session in April or May before the experience.
- Complete a community engagement or service project. Projects may be pre-determined for sites, but will require 10-20 hours of engagement.
- Regularly reflect on and collect artifacts from the internship.
- Secure and fund housing arrangements. Employers and Program Coordinator are available to assist. Need-based stipends are available.
- Complete any necessary trainings and paperwork relevant to the experience, including participation agreements.
- Prioritize KCI internship offers. Once students receive an offer from a KCI employer, they must withdraw from other internship or employment opportunities.
