LEAD 212 Class Leader Application

For fall 2026

LEAD 212 Class Leaders have the unique opportunity to facilitate small group discussions as part of the LEAD 212, Introduction to Leadership Concepts Course. Class leaders gain valuable skills in facilitation, classroom management techniques, giving and receiving feedback, and mentoring. Class Leaders serve as role models and coaches as students invest in their own leadership education and development in LEAD 212.

Eligibility

The minimum qualifications for LEAD 212 Class Leaders are:

  • Good academic (minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA) and disciplinary standing at K-State.
  • Will be in at least their second year of college by fall 2026 (based on years in college, not credit hours).
    • Priority given to third and fourth year students with limited space for second-year students.
  • Understand and believe in the mission of the Staley School of Leadership.
  • Have previously taken a LEAD 212 or equivalent introduction to leadership course; and have taken or will be enrolled in LEAD 350 by fall 2026.
  • Exhibit responsibility, positive attitude, confidence, flexibility, team orientation, strong energy level, and excellent communication skills.
  • Relate well with students and faculty.
  • Able to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn about leadership.
  • Demonstrate willingness to develop self-awareness and teamwork, planning, and facilitation skills.
  • Available for all mandatory training seminars in the spring, class excusal letters available but NO exceptions given.
  • Class prep sessions throughout fall semester.
  • Able to work 6-9 hours per week during the fall 2026 semester for class time, class prep, grading, and individual meetings, etc.

Time commitment

Class Leaders spend approximately 6-9 hours per week which includes time in LEAD 212 Introduction to Leadership Concepts, LEAD 312 Class Leader Class prep sessions, grading papers, providing student feedback, meeting one-on-one with students and preparing class lesson plans.

Compensation

Class Leaders will work approximately 6-9 hours per week at $12.00 per hour.

Who would particularly benefit from this program?

All Staley School of Leadership students would benefit from this position because Class Leaders work to develop the leadership capacity in others. Class Leaders are asked to mobilize their learning communities into action to make progress on a community identified need; food insecurity. While this position is open to all majors, education majors have voiced the importance of this experience prior to their student teaching in K-12 classrooms.

Timeline (for fall 2026 applications)

Application deadline: Friday, Feb. 13.

  • Interview offers: Sent via email no later than Friday, Feb. 20
  • Interviews: 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday March 19, and 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, March 4
  • Offers to be in the program: Sent via email Friday, March 13
  • Applicant deadline to accept offers: Send via email by Monday, March 23

Training and event dates

Training will be provided through spring workshops and a Canvas module in the spring, summer, and fall.

Fall 2026 Retreat
9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14 (on Zoom)
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 (in Leadership Studies Building)
