Faculty Workshops
The ALE Faculty Workshop series is designed to provide faculty support in designing their courses to be designated as ALEs in the course catalog. The series of 4-5 sessions will give context and background of applied learning as well as support within the specified categories. The workshop series has been submitted as a micro credential (awaiting approval) for those who complete the series and a stipend of $500 is available for faculty who complete a workshop and submit a course for the Applied Learning Experiences course designation. Additionally upon completing the workshop there is an opportunity to apply for financial support for your course to include transportation, equipment, etc.

Participants will gain a fundamental understanding of approaches to effective community-engaged teaching and learning. They will learn about creating high-impact learning opportunities, building and sustaining authentic community partnerships, and approaches to critical reflection.
Spring 2026 Schedule
All sessions will be held in the Leadership Studies Building, Room 247, except for Feb. 23, which will take place in Room 201. All sessions are scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m.

This workshop offers participants a foundational understanding of effective global learning and its integration into student development. Through an exploration of best practices, we will examine strategies for mentoring students throughout their international experiences, with particular attention to short-term global programs. The session will also introduce techniques that will assist the faculty to build upon existing activities and structures, preparing them to submit courses for ALE designation. Emphasis will be placed on how to formalize and enhance the educational value of global experiences to support students' personal, academic, and professional growth.

Sessions for this workshop will take place Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Leadership Studies Building 253.

This workshop will introduce learners to best practices for mentoring undergraduate researchers, while preparing them to lead ALE designated courses. Participants will reflect on their own experiences with mentoring, learn about different mentoring models, and develop skills for managing common mentoring conflicts. Each learner will develop their own mentor-mentee compact and a mentoring philosophy.
Sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 11:00-12:30 in Leadership Studies Building room 253.
