The graduate teaching assistant (GTA) supporting Global Food Systems Leadership secondary major and Food Security Scholars program at the Staley School of Leadership will assist the program director with teaching and programming. In partnership with the College of Agriculture, Global Food Systems Leadership secondary major explores the challenges of feeding a growing population through diverse perspectives and leadership rooted in a deep understanding of the global food system. Food Security Scholars is a collaborative leadership development program for K-State students who are passionate about addressing food insecurity and the poverty cycle. Both of these programs support the mission of the Staley School of developing bold, curious, and connected learners to address our world’s most complex challenges.

Position Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned undergraduate courses, including preparing syllabi, lectures, and assessments
  • Manage classroom instruction and facilitate student learning
  • Grade assignments and maintain accurate academic records
  • Hold office hours to support student success
  • Adhere to departmental and university policies for instruction and evaluation

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as a graduate student at Kansas State University and have earned a master’s degree at the time of appointment
  • Passionate about food security, the global food system, and related areas such as sustainability, equity, nutrition, systems thinking, infrastructure, policy, and food production/processing 
  • A strong commitment to the growth and development of students
  • Affinity for the mission of the Staley School of Leadership

Our Commitment

  • This appointment is a nine-month position for the 2026-2027 academic year and renewable for the 2026-2027 academic year contingent upon satisfactory performance.  
  • The stipend will be $16,000 ($8,000/semester) and require 20 hours of work per week. 
  • Additionally, the School will cover up to 10 graduate credit hours per semester.
