Concert of music by Asian American composers to be presented May 1

The K-State School of Music, Theatre, and Dance will commemorate the opening of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with a recital of solo and chamber music by Asian American composers at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 1, in All Faiths Chapel.

The concert will feature contemporary music by composers from China, India, Iran, Sri Lanka, South Korea and Vietnam who now live in the U.S. Works to be performed include "Apèritif" for solo trumpet by Vivian Fung; "Mushroom March" for brass trio by Leyou Wang; "This Love Between Us" for mezzo soprano, violin and piano by Reena Esmail; "Everything is Dark" for trumpet, clarinet and electronics by Niloufar Nourbakhsh; "Prayer" for bassoon and piano by Nirmali Fenn; "Endeavour" for voice, trumpet and piano by HyeKyung Lee; and "Well-Groomed" for solo snare drum by Viet Cuong.

Performing will be School of Music, Theatre, and Dance faculty members Amanda Arrington, piano; Jacqueline Fassler-Kerstetter, horn; Amy Guffey, clarinet; Daniel Hinman, trombone; Madeleine Jansen, violin; Susan Maxwell; bassoon; Craig B. Parker, trumpet; Patricia Thompson, mezzo soprano; and Craig Weston, sound engineer. Assisting will be percussionist Nathan Smith, senior in applied music performance.

The recital is free and open to the public.
