Olson & Schwartz

Katie Olson, O'Fallon, Missouri, and Juliana Schwartz, Manhattan, both fifth-year interior architecture graduate students from the department of interior architecture and industrial design in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Design, or APDesign, were given the prestigious honor of being designated as 2023 Metropolis Future100 students.

Launched in 2021 by Metropolis, Future100 recognizes the Top 100 graduating students from architecture and interior design programs from across the United States and Canada and connects them with architecture and design firms throughout North America. This program is sponsored by architecture and design firms interested in recruiting a talented and diverse pool of candidates. Through a rigorous application process, instructors and mentors nominate students who are then selected from hundreds of applicants by the Metropolis team. These students are recognized for their leadership and dedication to diversity and inclusion alongside their design work.

Olson was nominated by Vibha Jani, professor of interior architecture and industrial design.

"Katie is a designer who incorporates innovative, sustainable solutions and tackles the challenges of tomorrow with grace, empathy and care for everyone around her," Jani said.

Schwartz was nominated by Michelle Wempe, professor of practice in interior architecture and industrial design.

"Juliana is a talented, motivated student whose process is one of intelligent engagement coupled with thorough investigation and iteration that ultimately leads to innovative design," Wempe said.

This achievement not only honors Olson and Schwartz for their creativity and talent but speaks to the quality of the APDesign program at Kansas State University and its committed professors.
