Retired energy industry CEO to speak about energy industry transition

Submitted by Trisha Brown

Chris Covert will deliver the inaugural Michael Brannan Lecture as part of the Civil Engineering Assembly at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in 1109 Engineering Hall. Covert is the president and chairman of the executive leadership committee for North West Redwater Partnership in Alberta, Canada, and a member of the K-State Civil Engineering Advisory Council.

The lecture is being hosted by the civil engineering and geology departments and the K-State American Society of Civil Engineers K-State Student Chapter and Williston Geology Club.

The energy industry continues to provide many engineering challenges and opportunities. As the transition continues from oil and coal sources, engineers will be challenged to design and build many mega and diversified projects. Successful cost and schedule performance will be critical on future infrastructure and energy projects. Innovative design and construction techniques must be implemented. Available construction labor and productivity issues continue to be our primary issues. Pre-fabrication, modularization and automation are keys for success for these future infrastructure and energy projects.
