Public conversation and performance brings Oscar and Grammy winners to K-State

Submitted by Jennifer Harlan

Mark your calendars and don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear how Kansas native Gordon Parks inspired three contemporary artists.

At 7 p.m. April 6, Kevin Willmott, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker and screenwriter of "BlacKkKlansman," will be joined by multimedia artist Andrew F. Scott and musician Terence Blanchard for a public conversation, "Art Matters Now: Three Artists Reflect." The artists will discuss how the arts can function as a tool for making our society more just and equitable. The free program, presented by the Beach Museum of Art, will be in McCain Auditorium. No ticket is required. To attend the program via Zoom, please register by clicking here

The following night, April 7, six-time Grammy winner Terence Blanchard and the E-Collective will be in concert. The "Presence of Absence: Gordon Parks Through an Empathic Lens" concert will be set against a dynamic, virtual backdrop styled by artist Andrew F. Scott and Matthew Gaynor, professor of graphic design, and his students. Tickets to the concert are free but are required.
