Lauer and Carvalho named to interim Division of Facilities positions

Submitted by Tara Fronce

Two Division of Facilities employees have been appointed to interim positions by Ethan Erickson, chief financial officer and interim vice president and chief operating officer. The appointments were made to ensure consistent leadership and continuity of services to campus following the upcoming departure of Diana Hutchison, director of campus planning and project management and university architect. Hutchison is leaving the university in January 2022 for a position with the Kansas Department of Administration.

Casey Lauer, assistant vice president of facilities operations, utilities and services, has been appointed interim associate vice president of facilities. His appointment was effective Nov. 28. Lauer will serve in the role while a national search is conducted to fill the position, which has been vacant since 2020. A permanent associate vice president is expected to be hired in spring 2022.

As interim associate vice president, Lauer will serve as the primary liaison with campus, the Kansas Board of Regents, the KSU Foundation and the city of Manhattan on all facilities matters. He will oversee facilities operations, utilities and services in addition to campus planning and project management.

Rosanna Carvalho, project manager, has been appointed interim director of campus planning and project management and university architect. Her appointment was effective Dec. 6. Carvalho will serve in the role while a national search is conducted to fill the position.

As interim director, Carvalho will help lead the project planning, design and construction operations of the university.

In addition to these personnel changes, changes to the project estimate request process have been implemented.
