Deana Core named College of Agriculture assistant dean of academic programs

Submitted by Susan Schiff

Deana Core has been selected assistant dean of academic programs for K-State's College of Agriculture and will begin Monday, May 3.

Core will be responsible for developing and coordinating the college's student recruitment strategies, including managing prospective student and family visits, and developing and sending recruitment materials. She also will manage new student services for the college, such as orientation and academic advising, and will assist with activities like commencement, Watermelon Feed, open house and the new graduate dinner. In this position, Core will also teach courses related to the general agriculture curriculum and advise Ag Ambassadors and CAT — College of Agriculture Training — programs.

"Deana's experience and success in recruiting students and her genuine commitment to helping students make her ideal for this position," said Dan Moser, associate dean for academic programs for the College of Agriculture. "We're excited to welcome her to the college."

Since 2011, Core has been the assistant director for transfer student recruitment in K-State's Office of Recruitment and Admissions. Before coming to K-State, Core was the associate dean of student services at Marshalltown Community College in Iowa, from 1999 to 2010, where she directed all admissions procedures and recruitment strategies. During Core's time there, enrollment climbed from 1,200 to 2,100.

"I enjoy helping students and their families navigate the college search process to find their right fit," Core said. "I am thrilled to be a part of the College of Agriculture to work closely with faculty, staff and students to share all of the amazing and unique opportunities we provide to future K-State students."
