College of Education faculty member accomplishes significant leadership achievements

Submitted by Deepak Prem Subramony

Deepak Prem Subramony, associate professor of curriculum and instruction in the College of Education, recently accomplished two significant achievements related to leadership in the field of educational communications and technology.

As president of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology's Culture, Learning and Technology, or CLT, Division for the 2019-2020 conference cycle, Subramony spearheaded contributions and works that earned the Culture, Learning and Technology Division a coveted Presidential Award from the association's president and executive committee in November 2020 for leadership with responding and reflecting on issues of social justice. Association President Michael M. Grant recognized and celebrated the Culture, Learning and Technology Division with the following words: "As the U.S. grappled with issues of social justice, our organization has as well. I wanted to acknowledge and thank the CLT Division for their leadership in helping AECT respond and reflect on issues of race, power, diversity, and social justice in our ongoing desire to improve for our members."

Additionally, Subramony was recently elected to the Association for Educational Communications and Technology Foundation's board of directors, starting November 2020. The foundation supports the association's charitable and educational activities, based on the conviction that the improvement of instruction in schools and colleges can be enhanced by the continued investigation and application of new systems for learning and by authentic assessment of communication techniques and technology. The purpose of the AECT Foundation is to prepare and develop leaders and practitioners in the educational communications and technology field, and to enlarge and encourage the dissemination of the field's body of knowledge.
