TLC Professional Development event today
The first TLC Professional Development event of the semester is scheduled for today, Aug. 19. Don Saucier, faculty associate director of the Teaching and Learning Center, will present "The Teaching Persona: PEACE During COVID-19" from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
Teaching personas are the ways teachers represent themselves when they teach. New — and even experienced — teachers may struggle with the characteristics they display while teaching as they attempt to craft their teaching identity. In our research examining the characteristics students want in their teachers, and those teachers strive to possess, we developed a model for the foundation of teaching personas. Our model is articulated by the acronym "PEACE." It identifies five characteristics that provide the foundation for teaching personas that produce positive experiences for teachers and students and enhance student learning: Preparation, Expertise, Authenticity, Caring and Engagement. Our model's simplicity and comprehensiveness make it ideal for reminding us to bring PEACE to our classrooms, and Saucier will discuss how to bring PEACE to our classes as we teach during COVID-19.
