Call for proposals for fourth KSUnite
Students, faculty and staff are invited to submit proposals for the fourth annual KSUnite breakout session presentations.
This year, KSUnite will take place in the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 13. The deadline to submit proposals is 5 p.m. Friday, July 10. Sessions will be in the K-State Student Union and will run 45 minutes in length. Proposals should address one or more of the three categories below.
Sessions that focus on interests, backgrounds and associational opportunities of all members of the campus to prepare participants for enhancing their awareness and understanding of issues along the diversity continuum. These sessions will demonstrate diversity and inclusion as a core value of K-State and emphasize expectations identified in our Principles of Community.
Sessions that present knowledge about diversity and inclusion and enriches the teaching, learning and service experience for all community members. These sessions will emphasize tenets of the Tilford Competencies as a component of the university's mission to ensure that all graduates have the knowledge and skills necessary to be global citizens.
Sessions that focus on creating and sustaining an inclusive environment wherein students, faculty and staff understand the value and demonstrate the importance of diversity and inclusion through action and behaviors. These sessions will provide participants with takeaways and action items that can assist in realizing the institutional conditions aspired to in our Principles of Community and personal attributes identified in the Tilford Competencies.
In addition to addressing at least one of the above categories, presenters should identify their sessions as introductory, intermediate or immersive:
Introductory sessions are foundational in nature and will provide participants with a general overview of the topic. Participants will normally learn by passive engagement, listening, questions and answers.
Intermediate sessions will provide participants with some degree of knowledge and awareness of the topic an opportunity explore relevance of the topic in their academic, personal and professional lives. Participants will normally learn by having dialogue about the topic.
Immersive sessions will provide participants with a good knowledge of the topic, opportunity to address multiple learning objectives. Participants in these sessions will learn by incorporating their varied individual backgrounds, experiences and beliefs into dialogue, activities and explorations of deeper issues.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we must plan multiple scenarios for KSUnite. All presenters are therefore asked to prepare their sessions for both face-to-face and/or virtual delivery. We truly appreciate your flexibility in these uncertain times.
