K-State faculty, graduate student to be panelists at AAUW's International Women's Day celebration

Submitted by Tresa Landis

Members of the Manhattan Branch of the American Association of University Women invites you to join them in celebration of International Women's Day the evening of Monday, March 9.

International Women's Day is observed annually on March 8. It is a global day recognizing and honoring the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. This year’s theme is "An Equal World is an Enabled World."

AAUW has assembled a panel of local international women to speak at a public forum. Local branch member and current Manhattan City Mayor Usha Reddi will moderate the discussion. The panelists will share their personal immigration experiences.

This year's speakers include Marianne Korten, K-State professor of mathematics and a native of Argentina; Kelly Shunje, doctoral student in chemistry and a native of Zimbabwe; China native Fanny Fang, a partner at Asian Market and young business professional; and South Korean native Sunny Song who is a STEM educator at Ogden Elementary with USD 383.

The dinner begins at 6 p.m. in the Landon Room of the Holiday Inn at the Campus, 1641 Anderson Ave. and is $25 per person. Reservations can be made by emailing your name and contact information to manhattanksaauw@gmail.com by March 1 or registering through eventbrite. A reservation is not necessary to attend the public forum at 7 p.m.

Come and bring a friend to this community celebration of women's achievement.
