BREXIT 2020: CBA offers study abroad opportunity to London and Brussels in May

Submitted by Brent Fritzemeier

BREXIT

The College of Business Administration is offering a 10-day study abroad course that will explore the political, economic and cultural implications of the United Kingdom's decision to exit, known as BREXIT, from the European Union. Faculty and students will travel to London and Brussels from May 22-31.

The program is primarily designed for graduate students who are interested in studying the effects of BREXIT on international business, relations and trade. Advanced undergraduates with a specialized interest in European business and economics are also encouraged to apply.

Faculty and students will travel to two major cities intimately involved in the BREXIT process — London, the U.K. capital and an important European financial center, and Brussels, the capital of Belgium and home to several EU governing bodies. Day trips to Oxford, England, and Bruges, Belgium, are also included in the itinerary. The trip includes multiple opportunities to interact with executives and senior management at firms and international institutions such as:

  • Lloyd’s of London Insurance Market
  • London Chamber of Commerce
  • AT&T
  • Unilever
  • British and European parliaments

This international business experience will provide a firsthand view of how firms on both sides of the Channel are coping with this monumental decision. Participants will deepen their global mindset and increase their cultural intelligence — attributes that are becoming increasingly important to firms looking to hire, promote, and groom high potential individuals.

This education abroad program is co-sponsored by associate professor of management Marne Arthaud-Day and senior instructor of management Sabine Turnley. For more information about the course and scholarships/financial aid, please contact/visit Marne Arthaud-Day, marthaud@k-state.edu, or Sabine Turnley, turnleys@k-state.edu

Applications are due by Feb. 14.
