Highlights from the Dec. 10, 2019 Faculty Senate meeting

Guests: Provost Charles Taber visited with senators regarding budget modernization assessment and provided an update of progress.

KSU Foundation President Greg Willems, and his team provided senators with a presentation on the Edge Collaboration District, previously referred to as North Corridor development.

Standing committee and Student Senate reports:

  • Academic Affairs: A revision to Section F103 of the University Handbook was approved. A new Ed.D. degree from the College of Education was approved and will go to Board of Regents for final steps of approval.
  • Faculty Affairs: A revision to Section B of the University Handbook was approved.
  • Professional Staff Affairs: The Docking Institute Survey results will be presented to the Regents; listening sessions are being scheduled for staff in February. 
  • Student Senate: The Tuition and Fees Strategies Committee completed its review of engineering fees. 
  • Technology, FSCOT: There is reorganization within ITS and future changes are expected. ITS was commended for its amazing work on getting data moved to the cloud in a timely manner. 
  • FSCOUP: The committee continue to be involved with budget modernization conversations, will participate in future with the K-State 2025 Refresh, and is assisting with getting CCOP membership lists updated.

Announcements

Open discussion period

  • New Initiatives/For the Good of the University: There will now be a brief period of time available near the end of First Tuesday meetings and Faculty Senate meetings to share potential collaborations and initiatives at their earliest stages of ideation.
  • A senator commented on the disparity between the strategic initiative funds available at the university and the funds Foundation has been able to raise.  
  • Faculty Senate is working to set up a tour of NBAF.
