Liang Hu to present Anatomy and Physiology Seminar

Submitted by Gail Eyestone

Liang Hu, doctoral graduate research assistant in the laboratory of Jianzhong Yu, will present "Characterization of a novel tumor suppressor gene that cross talks with the Hippo pathway" at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, in the Mara Conference Center, 407 Trotter Hall.

During the last 20 years, the Hippo signaling pathway has emerged as a key signaling cascade that regulates organ growth through inhibiting cell proliferation and promoting apoptosis. Dysfunction of the Hippo pathway caused by loss-of-function mutations of the Hippo pathway components is closely related to many human diseases and cancer. In this study, they identified and characterized a novel tumor suppressor gene in Drosophila melanogaster that regulates tissue growth and cross talks with the Hippo pathway. They also proved that the human homolog of the gene is functionally conserved.
