K-State Military Affairs director receives lifetime achievement award from alma mater

Submitted by Art DeGroat

Retired Lt. Col. Art DeGroat, K-State's executive director of military and veterans affairs, was the fifth inductee into the Seton Hall University Army ROTC Hall of Fame Saturday, May 4, at its annual Military Ball in Summit, New Jersey.

DeGroat was a distinguished military student from Seton Hall University in the class of 1985 and was commissioned as an Army armor officer. He completed a 23-year Army career that included combat duty as a commander and retired in 2006 to become the founder and director of the K-State Office of Military Affairs.

Recognized for this honor for his military and post-military work in military and veterans affairs, DeGroat earned a master's in adult learning from K-State in 2006 and and doctorate in educational leadership in 2016. In addition to his work at K-State, he is currently serving on the Kansas Governor's Military Council and five national veteran service organizations and is recognized as a national thought leader in veterans' transition to the workplace and pioneer in the emerging genre of performing arts in service to veterans.
