University of Leeds' Caroline Peacock to present geology seminar March 27

Submitted by Angelina Butler

Caroline Peacock, professor of biogeochemistry at the University of Leeds, will present a geology seminar at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in 213 Thompson Hall.

She will present "Mineralogical Controls on Earth's Climate."

Peacock is a Mineralogical Society of America 2018-19 distinguished lecturer and is visiting as part of the society's Distinguished Lecturer program. This program offers schools the opportunity to hear talks about recent advances in mineralogy by distinguished earth scientists.

Abstract: Knowledge of the abundance and distribution of elements in modern and ancient environments is vital to understanding the links between the chemical, biological and geological components that combine to regulate the Earth system and sustain all life. This talk focuses on the reactivity and cycling of elements in marine and terrestrial environments, and how element mobility and fate are controlled by interactions with minerals in sediment and soil.
