Blue Key Senior Honorary chapter recipient of three national awards

Submitted by Miranda Moore

The Blue Key Senior Honorary chapter at Kansas State University was recognized in three separate national award categories at the 2019 Blue Key National Leadership Conference hosted at the University of Nevada, Reno from Jan. 18-20.

The chapter won the Blue Key Distinguished Service Award, the Gregory Lee Smith Exemplary Blue Key Member Award and the Chapter Website Award.

The Blue Key Distinguished Service Award recognized Pat J. Bosco, vice president for student life and dean of students, for a lifetime of leadership and service to Blue Key. As one of the Blue Key advisors, Bosco encourages members to strive to make an impact as he has with the university year after year. He was determined to embody the Blue Key motto, "Serving I Live," by the national committee through his continued service to the university and Blue Key.

The Gregory Lee Smith Exemplary Blue Key Member Award was given to Molly Bassette, a 2018 graduate and member of the 2017-2018 Blue Key class. Bassette served as director of YouLEADS, organizing a variety of self-development workshops offered at no cost to organizations throughout the state of Kansas. Bassette's innovation allowed for improvements to be made in the structure and content of the workshops, and for the members of Blue Key to become more competent and effective in facilitating them. She also created and executed a TED Talk-style event for Manhattan community members to publicly express their experiences with Clifton Strengths. Her legacy will continue, as the second Strengths in Action event will take place this year from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union.

The website and social media strategy of the Kansas State University chapter of Blue Key Senior Honorary effectively communicates with campus and the larger community in a way that highlights Blue Key's mission and supports its membership, activities and distinction.

Blue Key recognizes college students at senior institutions of higher education for balanced and all-around excellence in scholarship, leadership and service. At K-State, it is exclusively for students of senior standing for a one-year term. Several signature programs are organized through Blue Key, including Quest Freshman Honorary; Catalyst, a self-development class for underclassmen; DiscoverU, a conference for high school students in the AVID program; along with other programs and services such as scholarships.
