U.S. Geological Survey Assistant Unit Leader – Wildlife Ecology and Management

The Kansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, Kansas State University, is seeking an Assistant Unit Leader.  The Kansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit exists in partnership with Kansas State University, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Wildlife Management Institute. Unit scientists work closely with cooperator agencies to address research needs relevant to the state, region, and nation and contribute to graduate academic programs at Kansas State University.  Assistant Unit Leaders are required to develop an externally funded research program, teach and advise graduate students, participate as collegial faculty members at the host university, and collaborate with state and federal management agencies. The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in (1) developing and applying advanced quantitative procedures to estimate and model spatial and long-term temporal variation in populations to understand drivers of change and inform harvest management and applied wildlife conservation and (2) developing and conducting interdisciplinary field studies, working with state agencies, and focusing on game species, but might also integrate non-game wildlife. A Ph.D. in ecology or a closely related field is required. Experience teaching and advising graduate students is strongly desired. The selectee will be required to obtain a faculty appointment in the Division of Biology at Kansas State University. This is a federal position (U.S. Geological Survey) that includes a non-tenure faculty appointment (Kansas State University). Academic rank will be determined commensurate with qualifications.

Salary: GS 12, $82,830-$107,680 per year, plus a quality benefits package. GS 13, $98,496-$128,043 per year, plus a quality benefits package.  The closing date for applications is 12 April 2023.
