The Division of Information Technology is focused on providing services for students, faculty, and staff. The 2018 fire on the roof of Hale damaged the K-State IT infrastructure, totaled the iTAC area, and displaced about 100 ITS students and full-time employees, but it energized us to rethink the way we do business and our way forward.
Almost two years forward, on March 1, 2020, we had approximately two weeks to prepare for our move back into Hale Library. We toured our space, planned for the move, worked with Telecom on phone and data, worked with the library on last-minute touches, and then organized our move.
When we moved in on Friday, March 13, our goal was to be up and running by Monday, March 16 due to the logistics of switching phone lines from the Union to the library. We maintained operational service in the Union March 14-15, and then on March 16, we spent the day setting up our beautiful space, getting phone lines working, and cleaning up our cubicle areas. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, on March 17 we were notified to vacate the library and we transitioned to full remote support after only two hours of operation in our new space.
On July 1, we plan to return to Hale Library following university guidelines, including distancing, face masks, plexiglass shields, procedures for cleaning and wiping down work areas/equipment, and regular handwashing steps.
Thank you to our campus partners for their continued support. Please provide feedback on the IT Strategic Plan as we build the next-generation infrastructure and user services. Together we can build something truly amazing.
