Reorganizations and Organizational Effectiveness Support
A reorganization consultation is recommended any time a department is considering changes that go beyond a single position, such as restructuring reporting lines, redistributing duties across a team or making significant changes for multiple positions.
- Who can request a consultation: Each unit’s HR manager is a good initial resource as units begin planning for reorganizations. HR managers and unit leaders should engage the HR COE team early in the process to ensure a smooth and well-informed review.
- When changes rise to the level of a reorganization: When proposed changes affect reporting relationships, redistribute duties across multiple positions or change the overall structure of a unit, rather than the duties of a single role, the changes may be considered a reorganization.
- Who is involved: HR COE partners with the appropriate HR teams to review proposed changes and assess their impact on classification, pay, organizational structure and broader institutional considerations. In providing guidance, HR COE evaluates both unit-specific needs and institution-wide implications to help support consistency, scalability and alignment across the university. Units are encouraged to engage early in the planning process, as consultations may require lead time to complete.
