Cultivating Respect by Managing Workplace Emotions and Responses

Course Code: WTD136

Course Name: Cultivating Respect by Managing Workplace Emotions and Responses

Prerequisite: None

Department: Human Resources

Length of Session: 2 hours

Audience: All Employees

Session Description: Have you ever experienced a situation at work when you let your emotions get the best of you; maybe you let anger take over and said something you later regretted? If so, you are not alone. Emotions are powerful; they influence how you interact with people, how you deal with challenges, and how you spend your time. Gaining control over emotions and responses is a skill that will help cultivate workplace respect. Just like any other skill, managing emotions requires practice and dedication particularly in the midst of change.

Session Objectives: As a result of this session, participants will:

  • Explore respectful responses when interacting with co-workers.
  • Examine emotional responses; identify primary and secondary anger and three anger triggers and how it affects respect in the workplace.
  • Learn the story behind what triggers strong, sometimes disproportionate, responses.
  • Identify how to help others and yourself manage outcomes.
