Voting privileges

The opportunity to vote remains one of the most fundamental rights that you have. KS 25-418 outlines accommodations to allow employees the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. The university follows state regulations to allow employees to exercise their right to vote.

Polling locations are generally open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., allowing employees to vote without affecting work hours. Accommodations should be made for those who live in other counties and need to arrive at work a bit late or leave a bit early to make the polls. If an employee cannot get to the polls outside of work hours, time should be allowed to go vote without leave being charged. Employees should reach out to their HR Timekeeper for instructions on how to report time away from work related to voting.

Volunteering at a polling location

The university supports the civic engagement of K-State employees. Benefits-eligible employees who volunteer at a polling place for the primary or general election will receive administrative leave to do so. Any employee who wants to serve as a volunteer at a polling place must first obtain approval from their supervisor to be absent for the time required to perform their duties. Approval from their supervisor must be received before an employee signs up to serve. Please note that the university’s operational needs must be considered, and not all employees may be approved to be away for this activity.

Employees who are approved as volunteers will receive paid administrative leave for their regularly scheduled hours for both the polling day and a subsequent training day, as applicable. Employees should reach out to their HR Timekeeper for instructions on how to report time away from work related to volunteering at a polling location.
