Session Description: Kansas State University is committed to creating an inclusive workplace environment for individual with disabilities.  A part of that commitment under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act (ADA/ADAAA)  is for supervisors to initiate an “interactive process” discussion when an applicant or employee requests reasonable accommodations or when a supervisor become aware of the possible need for an accommodation.  

Session Objectives:  As a result of this session, participants will:

  • Describe the interplay between essential functions, medical restrictions, and reasonable accommodation under ADA/ADAAA
  • Identify reasonable accommodation requests and when it is appropriate to initiate an interactive discussion for such requests
  • Interpret policy and procedures and discuss confidentiality, time frame, and documentation
