Course Name:  Hazardous Waste Awareness

Prerequisite:  None

Length of Session:  1 Hour

Audience:  All Employees

Session Description:  

Required training for all employees that generate (create) or have responsibility for hazardous waste.  The course is necessary for anyone that handles chemicals and materials that can become regulated hazardous waste.  Attendees will learn to identify, label and properly dispose of hazardous chemical and medical/biological waste.  The course also covers how to properly manage other waste materials such as ethidium bromide, PCB, latex paint, used oil and more.  

This one-hour session is required annually for all university employees including faculty, researchers, students, graduate research assistants and graduate teaching assistants who generate, handle or have responsibility for hazardous waste.  

Session Objectives:  As a result of this session, participants will:

  • Distinguish hazardous from non-hazardous and medical waste and how to properly handle both.
  • Know how to request a pickup for hazardous and medical waste.
  • Recognize hazardous chemicals found in homes and what to do with them.
