Executive Director of Military and Veterans Affairs

Travis Habhab serves as executive director of military and veterans affairs in the Office of External Engagement, where he leads Kansas State University's strategy for engaging military-connected students, partners and communities. He serves as the university's primary liaison to military and veteran organizations at the local, state and national levels, building strategic partnerships that strengthen capabilities for U.S. military, family members, and veterans while advancing K-State as the nation’s lead next-generation land-grant university.

A retired U.S. Army aviation officer with 28 years of service, Habhab held senior command and executive leadership roles across the Army. He most recently served as the Chief of Staff for Fort Riley and 1st Infantry Division, and previously commanded the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade and served in the Pentagon as Executive Officer to the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army. His deployments include Afghanistan and Iraq, where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the nation’s highest award for valor in aerial flight. His academic experience includes serving as an assistant professor for economics and finance at the United States Military Academy at West Point and as department chair at the University of Texas, where he developed future military leaders. He is committed to advancing K-State’s land-grant mission and making it the premier military-friendly university by creating impactful connections between the university and the broader defense and veteran community.
