Interdisciplinary Program Engagement Coordinator

Ann Schmitt is responsible for maintaining operational stability and providing consistent support across all interdisciplinary studies and engagement areas. Her duties include researching and interpreting policies, managing detailed information and ensuring accuracy and compliance. Schmitt coordinates schedules, events and travel logistics to optimize productivity and maintain order. She ensures that the Interdisciplinary Studies and Scholarly Engagement teams within K-State's Office of External Engagement function effectively and focus on their strategic objectives through clear communication and organization.

Before joining the team, Schmitt worked in Brunel University London and Kansas State University academic programs. Before returning to higher education, she worked in museum education for more than two decades, serving in progressively responsible roles as an educator, outreach coordinator, program manager and curator. This extensive museum experience provided her with deep expertise in educational programming, stakeholder coordination and content management across diverse audiences.

Schmitt’s experience coordinating between diverse content experts and museum teams has uniquely prepared her to support the Interdisciplinary Programs and Engaged Scholarship teams by facilitating meetings across K-State colleges and external stakeholders throughout the Great Plains region. This collaborative work supports K-State’s strategic imperatives by enabling problem-based interdisciplinary research initiatives. Her ability to bridge different academic disciplines and coordinate complex projects makes her an invaluable asset in advancing K-State's mission of fostering innovative, cross-disciplinary solutions to complex challenges.

Her international academic experience, extensive museum education background and proven coordination skills position her to support the university's interdisciplinary research and engagement efforts effectively.
