Research

Discovery and dissemination of new knowledge is the cornerstone of our mission and often involves fieldwork and interdisciplinary collaborative research with teams from K-State and other universities from across the world.

Examining Our World

From climate and environmental assessment to surface or deep earth processes and water and soil resources, our school offers a window into an interdisciplinary approach to sustainability. Our researchers enjoy strong national and international reputations and collaborate frequently with scientists from across the K-State campus and at many international universities.

Graduate and undergraduate students will find many opportunities to engage in research and build their own projects and portfolios — plus compete for national scholarships and awards.

Mapping Tomorrow

Powering Geocat is moving K-State’s massive mapping database into a powerful cloud network to create a supercharged digital atlas using dvanced GIS technology to map local water supplies, track climate impacts on farmland, and help rural communities build a sustainable future.

Undergraduate Research

We don't just want our students to learn about science. We also want them to get experience doing science. We integrate the scientific process within our course offerings, but it’s best for students to build on their coursework by completing an individual project. We encourage undergraduate students to get involved in research — and not to wait until they are a senior.

Get started by learning about the research our faculty are guiding then emailing those whose interests match your own. After you make the connection, you can discuss opportunities to obtain credit hours for research activities, find funding support for research, participate in undergraduate research exhibitions and much more.
