Web Accessibility at K-State
At K-State, our mission of teaching, research and engagement is built on a strong foundation of creating access and opportunity for all. This principle underscores our commitment to accessibility in all its forms, including how we work together across the university to build and maintain websites and digital content that comply with federal accessibility requirements.
K-State's University Websites policy (PPM 3360) stipulates that university websites must meet current accessibility standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Based on the Department of Justice's April 2024 final rule, universities like K-State must comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Level 2.1 AA standard by April 2026.
Advancing Continuous Improvement in Web Accessibility
For each university website, a primary site owner is identified to obtain access to Siteimprove, K-State's chosen platform for web accessibility advancement. The CMS system also offers accessibility checks at the page publishing stage. Siteimprove, however, offers a more comprehensive look at accessibility issues, offering guided solutions for remediation and filters to support prioritization.
In fall 2025, the Web Services team within the Division of Communications and Marketing (DCM) is hosting a series of Website Accessibility Working Sessions. These are not structured trainings: They are a dedicated time where site owners across the institution are encouraged to block their calendars to focus on website accessibility and remediation efforts. DCM Web Services staff members will be available to answer questions and problem-solve in real-time, and you'll also benefit from working alongside others who are solving the same issues you are on their own websites.
Full-Day In-Person Working Sessions
Plan to work a full day on your website remediation efforts. Snag a spot in one of our designated spaces in Dole Hall on the Manhattan campus (137 Dole Hall, 154 Dole Hall, or 164 Dole Hall) to work alongside others tackling their own remediation efforts and have easy access to the DCM Web Services team on-site. You may come and go as needed, but our hope is that you are able to use this as a dedicated time to drive progress. The conference rooms will be open and available between 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Plan for a full-day working session alongside your peers and the DCM Web Services team from wherever you office! Log on and off Zoom whenever you have a question or want to run an issue by the Web Services team for easy access to support. Web Services staff members will be logged in to Zoom between 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

By creating this community-based approach to remediation, we aim to catalyze K-State's ongoing efforts toward advancing WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.
