Li Yang's Chinese Pragmatics

Information for Students

This instructional website is developed to provide students with explicit instruction in appropriate communication in Chinese, promote students’ pragmatic and intercultural awareness, and prepare them for possible study abroad experiences in the future. The instructional materials on the website are primarily written in English, and can be used by students at different levels of Chinese language proficiency. For low-proficiency students in particular, this website provides them with glossaries and audio recordings of new words and expressions in Chinese, and transcripts of video materials. If students still have difficulties understanding certain vocabulary and linguistic expressions in Chinese, study are encouraged to refer to a dictionary or other online resources for help. In addition, this website gives students a glimpse of what modern China looks like by presenting them with real images of the food, places and people in China. Students are expected to have a better understanding of what studying and living in China look like.

This website is a self-access online learning tool. Students can refer to these materials whenever and wherever there is internet connection, and they can use the website at their own pace and at their most convenience, and students also have the freedom to use as many or as few resources provided by this website.
