Have You Seen The Muffin Man

  • Looking at the picture - directions for the recipe.
  • Using fine motor skills to cut open the bag and pour muffin mix into the bowl.
  • Measuring 1 cup of water.
  • Everyone took turns mixing the muffins as the other children counted to 10.
  •  Pouring 1 cup of heavy whipping cream into a jar.
  • Everyone had fun taking turns shaking the jar of cream to music until the cream turned into butter!
  • Placing the liners into the muffin tin.
  • Yummy! They are delicious!

Exploring Tropical Fruit

Nursery Rhyme

Apples and Bananas

  • Looking at the inside of a pineapple. The children took turns saying “pineapple” and told Miss Raineka what color the inside of the pineapple was.
  • Looking at the outside of the pineapple. Miss Raineka asked the children which colors they saw, if they thought the skin looked bumpy and if they thought they could eat this part.
  • The children took turns touch the “spikey” leaves.
  • The children each got their own piece of pineapple to explore. Miss Raineka asked them to smell the pineapple and tell her what it smelled like.
  • The children tasted the pineapple by licking the juices before they ate it.
  • Everybody asked for another piece. Yum!

Mud Pies: Exploring Sunflowers

Special thanks to the K-State Agronomy Department for allowing us to harvest their sunflower heads to use for this activity.

A Seed is Sleepy by Dianna Hutts Aston and Sylvia Long

  • Miss Rene reading a book about seeds to her class. Reading picture books to children about gardening is an enjoyable way to help them learn.
  • Looking at pictures of sunflowers we grew in our garden so that the children understand the seed head used to be a pretty sunflower.
  • Kathryn is 14 months and enjoys looking at the pictures and talking about them.
  • The children each had a turn exploring the sunflower head.
  • The class rubbed the two sunflower heads together and seeds came out! The children got to see what a real sunflower seed looks like and where they come from.
