As a vital part of the K-State Marching Band, the K-State Color Guard adds visual artistry and energy to every performance. Members are expected to uphold excellence in performance, teamwork, and school spirit throughout the season.
Performance Commitments
K-State Color Guard members perform at:
- Football pre-game, halftime, and sideline shows
- University pep rallies and campus events
- Select men’s and women’s basketball halftime performances
- Parades and community events as scheduled
Uniforms & Expenses
Provided by the KSU Marching Band:
- Official Color Guard performance uniforms
Purchased by Members:
- Guard shoes (three designated pairs)
- Practice and secondary uniform items: team t-shirt, shorts, tights, warm-ups (jacket and pants), and gear bag
- Performance equipment (e.g., gloves, flags, rifles—if applicable)
Estimated Costs:
- New Members: $400+
- Returning Members: $250+
All fees must be paid before the first game. Continued participation depends on full payment.
Fundraising opportunities are available to assist with expenses.
Rehearsal & Attendance
Mandatory Attendance is required for all rehearsals, including:
- Summer Band Camp: Typically late July to early August (dates TBA)
- Weekly Rehearsals:
- Tuesday & Thursday: 3:30–5:30 PM
- Friday (home game weeks): 3:30–5:30 PM
- Color Guard Sectionals:
- Monday: 3:30–5:30 PM
- Wednesday: 3:30–5:15 PM
- Tuesday Evenings: 6:30–8:00 PM
- Game Day Rehearsals: Saturday mornings with report times ranging from 6:00–8:00 AM
- Spring Semester: Rehearsal times to be announced
Absences must be pre-approved by the Band Director and Color Guard Coordinator.
Communication
All communication should be made directly by the Color Guard member or candidate. To maintain a professional environment, communication from family members is discouraged.
Additional Opportunities
- K-State Color Guard Experience: A fall weekend event for prospective members that includes rehearsals, campus tours, and time with current team members and staff.
- Junior Guard Clinic: A summer clinic for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, featuring basic instruction and a showcase performance.
