2024-25 Graduate Students
The K-State Bands graduate program offers a unique and immersive experience for aspiring conductors. The Master of Music in Wind Conducting combines rigorous coursework with hands-on conducting opportunities. Graduate students receive personalized lessons with faculty and enroll in Advanced Rehearsal Techniques to strengthen their rehearsal and leadership skills.
Students gain substantial podium time with a variety of K-State ensembles, including the Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Concert Band, and more. They also have the chance to conduct a second-year recital with the Wind Ensemble and Chamber Winds. Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) receive a full tuition waiver, a stipend of around $12,000, and opportunities for additional summer income.
Beyond concert ensembles, students assist with the K-State Marching Band, Volleyball Band, and basketball Cat Bands, contributing to drills and halftime shows. They may also collaborate with public school instrumental music programs across Kansas, gaining valuable teaching experience.
Overall, the K-State Bands program provides graduate students with ample conducting experience, financial support, mentorship, and real-world teaching opportunities, preparing them for successful careers as music educators and conductors.
