Advising Tools
To help you on your K-State Journey, we have hubbed helpful advising related tools that you may need based on topic:
Degree progression and enrollment:
- Academic degree maps: Academic degree maps are semester-by-semester guides designed to help students complete their degrees within four years. Students should work with their academic advisors if they have completed college courses previously to create a personalized plan that fits their academic journey.
- Course catalog: provides course descriptions, degree expectations, and academic policies.
- Course schedule: is published every semester with details of courses that will be offered.
- Enrollment dates: each student is given a specific date and time for enrollment which is based on the number of credit hours the student has completed.
- In your KSIS Student Center, review any holds and take action accordingly. The advisor hold will be removed after a successful advising appointment.
- Review your DARS report. If applicable, ensure any transfer credits are being pulled in correctly. Note any questions and bring them to your appointment.
- Review your curriculum guide or academic plan if you have one from your advisor; otherwise, review your academic degree map in the course catalog.
- Using DARS, mark off completed and currently enrolled courses on the degree map if applicable. This will aid in selecting courses you will take in the next semester.
- Use the course search to build a conflict-free schedule in your shopping cart for now (here’s how). Pay attention to days/times and pre/co-requisite information. Consider one or two alternate courses (or sections) in case a course (or section) is full when you go to enroll. Note that adding classes to your shopping cart does not reserve a spot in the class. Your spot is only secured once you are officially enrolled.
- Fill out the enrollment worksheet as completely as possible. If unsure, come prepared with course options and questions.
- Email your completed enrollment worksheet as an attachment to your academic advisor prior to your appointment or bring a paper copy with you.
- On the day of your appointment, arrive at your advisor's office a few minutes early prepared with your enrollment worksheet and any questions.
Technology:
- Navigate Student is a free app designed for you. Use Navigate Student to connect with faculty and study partners, schedule appointments, access campus resources, stay on track to graduation, and more! You can download the app from your app store.
