Fall 2020 freshman scholarships/awards for domestic, out-of-state students

Apply for admission by the Dec. 1 priority date for full academic merit scholarship/award consideration, and please make sure you’re aware of the general freshman scholarship/award renewal requirements that apply to all renewable awards.

Please note that meeting the eligibility requirements for a scholarship does not guarantee an award, as all award amounts and criteria are pending availability of funds and are subject to change.

Academic merit scholarships/awards

The eligibility requirements for K-State’s academic merit scholarships/awards are anchored by high school GPA and ACT or SAT score. Additionally, the university offers some merit awards with additional selection criteria, including having a parent or grandparent who is a K-State alum, majoring in a particular program, or hailing from a home state that participates in one of our reduced tuition programs.

Awarded to out-of-state graduating seniors with a minimum 3.5 high school GPA and 24 ACT OR 1160 SAT.
Denison Award for non-Kansas residents$32,000 
  • $8,000 renewable award
  • 3.0 K-State GPA required for renewal

Awarded to out-of-state graduating seniors in one of the following two achievement brackets:

  • minimum 3.4 high school GPA and minimum 24 ACT OR 1160 SAT,

    OR


  • minimum 3.5 high school GPA and 20-23 ACT OR 1020-1150 SAT. 
Inspiration Award for non-Kansas residents$24,000
  • $6,000 renewable award
  • 3.0 K-State GPA required for renewal

Awarded to out-of-state graduating seniors in one of the following two achievement brackets:

  • 3.2-3.49 high school GPA and 22-23 ACT OR 1100-1150 SAT,

    OR

  • 3.2-3.39 high school GPA with a minimum 24 ACT OR 1160 SAT. 
Recognition Award for non-Kansas residents$16,000
  • $4,000 renewable award
  • 3.0 K-State GPA required for renewal

Awarded to out-of-state graduating seniors in one of the following two achievement brackets:

  • 3.1-3.49 high school GPA and 20-21 ACT OR 1020-1090 SAT,

    OR

  • minimum 3.1 high school GPA with a minimum 22 ACT OR 1100 SAT.
Heritage Scholarship for non-Kansas residents

$48,000

  • $12,000 renewable award
  • 3.0 K-State GPA required for renewal

One parent or grandparent (biological or adopted) must have graduated from K-State. Awarded to out-of-state graduating seniors with a minimum 3.0 high school GPA. 

Midwest Student Exchange Program

The Midwest Student Exchange (MSEP) is for residents of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio or Wisconsin. More information is available on the MSEP website.

The majority of nonresident tuition is waived. Eligible students pay 150% of in-state tuition, a $44,000 tuition reduction/projected award.

Awarded to students with a minimum 3.25 high school GPA and 22 ACT OR 1100 SAT in eligible states.

Founders Non-Resident Merit Award

The Founders Non-Resident Merit Award is for residents of Arkansas, California, Colorado, Oklahoma or Texas.

The majority of nonresident tuition is waived. Eligible students pay 150% of in-state tuition, a $44,000 tuition reduction/projected award.

Awarded to students with a minimum 3.25 high school GPA and 22 ACT OR 1100 SAT in eligible states.

Sunflower State Award

This is an add-on scholarship for eligible Midwest Student Exchange Award and Founders Non-Resident Merit Award recipients.

$12,000

  • $3,000 renewable award
  • 3.0 K-State GPA required for renewal

Awarded to students with a minimum 3.70 high school GPA and 28 ACT OR 1310 SAT in eligible states.

Ad Astra Award

This is an add-on scholarship for eligible Midwest Student Exchange Award and Founders Non-Resident Merit Award recipients.

$6,000

  • $1,500 renewable award
  • 3.0 K-State GPA required for renewal

Awarded to students with a minimum 3.50 high school GPA and 25 ACT OR 1200 SAT in eligible states.

Missouri Reciprocal

Awarded to students who are Missouri residents and are enrolled in one of the eligible curricula. A limited number of these waivers are available.

Nonresident tuition is waived. Qualified students pay Kansas resident tuition, a $63,000 tuition reduction/projected award.
  • Renewable based on satisfactory academic progress as defined by the academic degree program 

Students are selected on the basis of academic merit and financial need. A limited number of these awards are available. Eligible selective admission curricula include:

  • architectural engineering
  • architecture
  • interior architecture and product design
  • landscape architecture

Additional scholarships

In addition to our academic merit awards, K-State also has a suite of competitive scholarships where awardees are selected by committees who review additional supplemental application materials and/or administer a selective interview process.
