The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program opens a pathway to elementary (K-6) or secondary (6-12) teaching. The master’s degree combines thorough, 100% online coursework with field experiences in accredited schools near you.

Multiple options available

K-State has designed two Master of Arts in Teaching tracks specifically with career-changers in mind.

  1. A license-seeking track for students who want to pursue their MAT while continuing their current employment.
  2. A practitioner track for students who want to pursue their MAT while teaching full time.

    Students teaching in Kansas will be required to hold a restricted teaching license.

Choose your specialization

Students can choose to specialize in:

  1. Elementary education (K-6)
  2. Secondary education (6-12)

    Regardless of what you studied as an undergraduate student, you can choose one of the available secondary education options:

    1. Agricultural Eucation
    2. English / Language Arts
    3. Social Studies
    4. Mathematics
    5. Modern Languages: Chinese, French, German, Japanese, or Spanish

Once you complete the program, you’ll earn a master’s degree and be eligible to apply for an Initial Teaching License in the state of Kansas. The license will transfer to other states upon fulfillment of any additional state requirements.
