Campus Physical Security Plan

Badge-access solutions

students walking on campus

As part of our comprehensive security plan, a university task force on security and safety is reevaluating the ways we physically secure facilities and campus spaces. The first phase of the task force is the selection and implementation of the Gallagher unified badge-access solution. The university continues to enhance campus security with the recent selection of a single access-control (badge reader) system that eventually will replace 15 different systems currently in place across all K-State campuses.

The new badge program will be introduced gradually, impacted departments can expect more detailed guidance soon. Stay tuned to K-State Today for additional information once recommendations and decisions are made.

Security Plan Methodology

A new task force has been formed to develop a comprehensive security plan incorporating all these elements. The committee’s work will include:

  • Evaluating current physical security infrastructure.
  • Determining placement strategy, coverage areas and physical access point locations.
  • Planning the integration of security considerations for existing buildings.
  • Developing design and construction standards for new construction and extensive remodels incorporating these elements.
  • Developing policies, including onboarding, offboarding and administration, for key control and badge access systems.
