K-State Student Union | Union Programs Council (UPC)
This position reports to the department of Student Programs and Involvement and is supervised by the Program Manager/SPI. It is a part-time student position, non-excempt.
Supervisory responsibility: No
Work schedule: Not to exceed 20 hours/week when school is in session. This is a 9-month position with the potential to extend to a 12-month position.
Job Summary
Responsible for supporting the department with administrative and/or project-based tasks while gaining valuable hands-on experience.
Qualifications
- Be at least 16 years of age (18 years of age for maintenance department)
- Bachelor’s degree
- Current enrollment in a master’s program at Kansas State University
- Enrolled in no fewer than six credit hours
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Organizational and time management skills
Responsibilities
- Serves as advisor to designated Union Program Council (UPC) student event-planning committee(s) co-chairs.
- Monitor financial condition of designated UPC budgets, reconciling and submitting invoices for payment in a timely fashion.
- Provide specific programming and leadership oversight by managing student volunteers.
- Respond to inquiries related to activities and services.
- Participate in planning of events and programs.
- Work to promote and encourage improved programming efforts.
- Gain experiential knowledge in agent and contract negotiation.
- Maintain records for historical purposes that include event/program attendance numbers, evaluations of events and programs, and co-sponsors.
- Attend departmental meetings, retreats, touch-base meetings, committee meetings, and co-chair meetings.
- Develop experience in organizing and executing meetings and presenting leadership topics.

Skills and Abilities/Physical Demands
Work in a general office environment. Remain seated/stand 75% of shift. Finger dexterity/movement for typing, picking up small objects and utilizing varying office equipment. Sight to view computer, documents, and general office machinery. Verbal and written communication to present, convey and exchange information and ideas accurately and quickly.
