Student Access Center

Student Access Center (SAC) is part of Student Well-Being within the Division of Academic Success and Student Affairs at Kansas State University. SAC serves the campus community by collaborating with students with permanent and/or temporary disabilities, faculty, and staff to create accessible environments and provide academic and housing accommodations. Disabilities may include mobility, visual and hearing, medical conditions, learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, psychological disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and traumatic brain injuries. Job Summary

The Graduate Research Assistant in this position will serve as a Program Assistant, supporting the various functions of SAC. The ideal candidate will have exceptional attention to detail, be punctual and reliable, be patient and courteous, have excellent communication skills (written and oral), and be able to adapt to a dynamic environment.

Graduate Assistants will have an opportunity to learn about the role of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Rehabilitation Act and how offices like SAC serve students. This is a half time (20 hours/week) position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Enrollment as a current graduate student at Kansas State University.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Applicants should have an interest in and ability to work with people. Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to graduate students enrolled in the Departments of Special Education, Counseling and Student Affairs, Psychological Sciences, Couple and Family Therapy, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Drama Therapy or other related fields.

Renumeration and Benefits

  • Salary $11,100.00, distributed on a bi-weekly basis ($426.95 bi-weekly).
  • 20 hours per week, between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
  • Eligibility for in-state tutition rates (but not a tutition waiver).
  • Health insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative
    • Schedule appointments, answer incoming phone calls, check email, and assist drop-in guests
    • Organize communication and documentation of the peer notetaker accommodation process
    • Participate in staff meetings
    • Participate in the routine operations of the office, including record keeping and office coverage
  • Student Services
    • Meet with prospective and incoming students and inform them of our accommodation processes
    • Educate students on how to use notetaking software
    • Participate in documentation review team meetings
    • Represent SAC and Student Well-Being by tabling at events such as prospective student visit days
  • Accessibility Services
    • Assist with modifying course materials into accessible formats
    • Provide support in the SAC Testing Center by checking students in for exams, proctoring exams, and returning exams to departments
  • Other duties as assigned.
