Accounting department scholarship gala awards more than $508,000

The K-State accounting department recently hosted its 2024 Scholarship and Awards Gala, which awarded more than $508,000 in scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year.
In all, 186 students received at least one scholarship at the event.
"The generosity and support of our donors and supporters is truly amazing," said Brett Wilkinson, department head of accounting. "We are indeed fortunate to have such incredible alumni and friends partnering with us to ensure the success of our program. Their generosity is having a major positive impact on our accounting students."
The Accounting Scholarship and Awards Gala is possible due to the generous support from a multitude of sponsors and donors, including Adams Brown, AGH, BNSF Railway, Cargill, CBIZ, Deloitte, EY, FORVIS, Grant Thornton, Kiewit, Koch Industries, KPMG, Netsmart, Pinion, PwC and Rubin Brown. Support is also provided from the K-State accounting department, Beta Alpha Psi and the Herbel Accounting Academy.
In addition to celebrating the scholarship recipients, the department inducted Jim Gordon into the Accounting Hall of Fame. Gordon, a proud K-State accounting alumnus, is the managing partner of Sink Gordon Accountants and Advisors, LLP, one of the most prominent certified public accountant firms in the region. Not only has Gordon had an extensive and successful career in public accounting, but he has been a high-impact leader in the Manhattan community, including being one of the original founders and three-time prior president of the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon were the lead donors for Pillar 2 of the future School of Accountancy, which supports the SGA-Gordon Family Scholars program, a model academic-professional partnership supporting high-achieving honors students. The program will be led by Amy Hageman.
"The inaugural SGA-Gordon Family Scholars represent an outstanding group of undergraduate accounting students," Hageman said. "Together, this group will have a major impact on the department of accounting and be future leaders in the accounting profession. It was an honor to have these students meet Mr. and Mrs. Gordon, and we are very thankful for the generosity of the Gordon family and other SGA donors."
