Goins to co-produce new album

Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance

Goins

Wayne Goins, university distinguished professor of music and director of jazz studies, was asked to co-produce and play guitar for soul and R&B artist Dylan Triplett. Goins served as co-producer on the St. Louis native's debut album, "Who Is He?" in 2019, which went on to win multiple honors, including Best Emerging Artist at the 2023 Blues Music Awards.

Goins was asked to reunite with Grammy award-winning bassist Larry Fulcher — for Taj Mahal, Phantom Blues Band, Ruthie Foster, et al. — to once again co-produce Triplett's new album, which will begin recording in December 2023 at Arlyn Studios in Austin, Texas, owned by the Willie Nelson family. It is scheduled for completion in early 2024. Several major labels are currently vying for the rights to release the project.

Triplett, who just completed an extensive tour of South America, was thrilled to reunite for the Austin recording session with Goins and his fellow St. Louis bandmate and acclaimed keyboardist Ryan Marquez for the upcoming album. Dylan is currently managed and promoted by Ric Whitney, who previously hired Goins to pen the liner notes for blues guitarist Christone "Kingfish" Ingram’s debut album, "662," which won multiple music awards, including the Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2022.

Goins has performed with such greats as legendary guitarist Kenny Burrell, alto saxophonist Bobby Watson, trumpeter Clark Terry, tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, organist Jimmy McGriff and many others. Learn more.
