Honors House a great new living option for K-State students

Submitted by Alison Rogers

Housing and dining services marked the successful completion of renovations to its newest living facility with a reception and tour Wednesday.

Students enrolled in the University Honors Program, key faculty and staff from across the university and all who were involved in the renovation process were invited to Honors House for a dinner and dessert. The event — planned by Andy Thompson, residence life coordinator, and Kyle Myers, assistant residence life coordinator — also offered guests a chance to view the facility as current residents showed off their new living quarters.

Formerly the Kappa Sigma fraternity house, Honors House is located a short walk west of campus. The coeducational house accommodates 51 honors program students in a focused living environment that emphasizes community development and academic success. Residents of the house also will have the opportunity to promote the University Honors Program by hosting community events.

“Honors House is a completely unique living option at K-State, and though they’re taking part in something that’s brand-new, these students know they made an excellent choice,” said Thompson. “I’m excited to see how this community develops throughout the year and to witness the impact it makes on campus.”

“Our department is excited about the opportunity to partner with the University Honors Program in this new endeavor," said Derek Jackson, director of housing and dining services. “We’re pleased to provide accommodations that are ideal for these students and to be able to highlight the program’s benefits in return."
