Kansas Natural Resources Conference focused on conservation delivery in changing times

By Jennifer Williams

After being hosted in Wichita for many years, the Kansas Natural Resources Conference kicks off Feb. 8 in Manhattan at the Hilton Garden Inn.

This year's plenary session theme is "Conservation Delivery in Changing Times" and will feature three speakers who will address topics such as policy struggles related to conservation, watershed planning and implementation, and applying nature-based leadership to conservation delivery. The event will provide concurrent sessions under various topic headings given by natural resources professionals as well as students.

Longtime Kansas conservationist John Strickler will be presented with the 2018 Kansas Conservation Champion award at the Friday luncheon. The award honors outstanding long-term dedication, innovation and leadership for the conservation, protection, enhancement, and stewardship of Kansas' natural heritage and resources. This recognition celebrates 56 years of contributions Strickler has made to the state of Kansas while serving in a variety of leadership positions, and at 82, he continues to provide leadership as chair of the Kansas Forest Service Advisory Council and board member of the Kansas Alliance for Wetlands and Streams.
