Increased phishing scams target K-State email accounts
Each semester, K-State email accounts are targeted by a significant number of phishing scams. These emails try to trick account holders into providing eID passwords which allows the scammers to access all user services including HRIS employee information, KSIS student information, email accounts and wireless networks.
Recent examples of phishing scams suggest email accounts need to be verified or reconfirmed, the server needs to be updated or storage limits have been exceeded. The emails may even appear to come from another K-State account. You can see examples of scam emails on K-State's IT Security Threats blog.
As a reminder, Kansas State University will never ask for your password. Never provide your password in response to any phone call or email. You should not reply to these emails or click on a link in the email and fill out a form. If you doubt the legitimacy of any message, ask your building's IT support person or contact the IT Help Desk, 785-532-7722 or email@example.com.
