Zinc Ejectors

Reference Number: 04-03

Inventor: Duy Hua

Description:

K-State has found recent success in the synthesis of new zinc chelators, bishydroxamic acids, for the development of new antiviral drugs. Removal of zinc ions from zinc-fingers viral proteins or viral RNA polymerases leads to the inhibition of viral replication. These zinc-finger motifs have been found in HIV-1 and the existence of similar motifs have been found among other viruses such as polio, human coxsackie, SARS, rabies, human parainfluenza, measles, human respiratory syncytial, human hepatitis, Dengue, West Nile and Ebola.

Applications

These zinc chelators could potentially lead to safe and less expensive antiviral drugs.

Advantages
  • These zinc chelators could potentially lead to safe and less expensive antiviral drugs.

Patent Status
